Fruity Herbal Teas with Stevia
As seen on the Sonoran Living program.

This pretty green plant with tiny white flowers is fast becoming a favorite among many who want a healthy sweetener without the concerns of calories, chemicals or glycemic effects on the blood. One little bite of a leaf will show you just how sweet it is! It is all natural, and very safe to use. Stevia is a great alternative for diabetics.

Stevia has been a popular herb in several countries around the world for decades. Japan uses it in many of it’s pickles, cured meats and even diet sodas now. Brazil loves to use it to sweeten Mate’, Brazil’s equivalent to coffee in the U.S.

I love stevia in iced tea of all kinds. I carry around a little bottle with me in my purse so that I never have to use that pink or blue stuff. Saccharine has already been proven to have a potential to cause cancer and critics of aspartame are pointing to various negative brain effects. I cringe when I see a child drinking a diet soda, it frightens me so. Adults can take these health assaults better at least than developing children.

Various brands of stevia may taste a little different and have varying levels of sweetness. I like to use the liquid stevia because of how easily it dissolves, but it is also available in powers as well. The white powders are more versatile than the green, ground up leaf powders.

Here are two herbal tea blends I really like that use stevia.
Both use Celestial Seasonings Herb Teas:

Fruit Punch Herbal Tea

4 bags Strawberry Kiwi
2 bags Black Cherry Berry
2 bags Peach Passion
½ - 1 tsp Stevia liquid (sweeten to taste)

Apricot Peach Blueberry Tea

4 bags True Blueberry
4 bags Apricot Peach Honeybush
½ - 1 tsp Stevia liquid (sweeten to taste)

Directions:

Bring 48 oz of filtered water up to a boil. Turn off heat, add the tea bags and cover the pot. Let steep for 30 minutes to one hour (or let it steep until cooled down). Pour into a pitcher and add a little bit of water to desired strength. I like to make about 60 oz in total and I use just under a teaspoon of stevia. Add stevia liquid and stir. Serve iced. Enjoy!
