UnBug Body and Room Mist
As seen on the Sonoran Living program.

This is a very easy mist to make before you head out for the woods or the lake to help keep those bugs from eating on you or taking over your tent. Insects have a very keen sense of smell, so you do not need to spray a huge amount, just spray it often . It is more important to repeat the spray often because the essential oils dissipate into the air, hence, you are smelling them. It is perfectly fine, in fact good, to spray your clothes and tent fabric.

There are a number of essential oils that are good for repelling insects. Here, I have listed some that are safer to use. For kids and pregnant women, dilute the mixture and/or use less. This is just a precaution. Frankly, I believe that this is much safer than any chemical product you might use.

DO NOT SPRAY IN EYES OR FACE!

Ingredients:
For Two Ounces (good for carrying in pocket)
1 ½ oz distilled or R.O. water
½ oz witch hazel
25-30 drops essential oil

Try 5 drops of each: Lemongrass, Lavender, Cedarwood, Bay, Clove, and Bitter Orange

For 16 Ounces (big squirt bottle for room mist and refills for body mist)
12 oz distilled or R.O. water
4 oz witch hazel
200-240 drops(2 tsp) essential oils

Method:
In a 2 oz squirt bottle, put the water and the witch hazel. Choose your essential oils and figure out how many drops of each to start with. Always err on the light side, you can always add more, it is harder to dilute it. Garnish your bottle with a bay leaf or lemongrass leaves. Label your bottle! No, you really won’t remember, even though you think you will!

Interesting note: Eat lots of garlic and B vitamins to help ward off those little biting critters – they don’t like the taste!

If you happen to still get a bite, put a little Lavender essential oil on the bite directly, do not dilute. Lavender is one of the few essential oils safe to use directly on the skin.

Buy good quality, therapeutic grade essential oils. If it is cheap, it is probably not the best choice. No sense wasting your money on inferior products.
