Bath Cookies
As seen on the Sonoran
Living program.
FIRST of all, DON'T Eat these cookies. These are not edible cookies – they are aromatherapy sea salt based cookies that you put in your bath water!
My friend, Sherry, gave me the recipe for these cookies. I wish I could tell you where the recipe originated, but on the internet I found at least 20 recipes for bath cookies and they were all this same recipe! Of course, I had to put my own twist on the recipe and added flower petals and a little vegetable glycerin to add to the soothing quality and beauty of the mixture. These cookies get rolled out much like a sugar cookie, or you may make little balls and flatten them a bit.
It took a lot of variations and trials to get these right, so I recommend you follow the directions as closely as possible.
These are cookies perishable, so put a note on these if you give them as a gift to use in two weeks or to refrigerate for up to 6 weeks.
The base of sea salt gives the bath water a cleansing effect and the egg, oils and glycerin helps to soften the skin. Throw 2-3 cookies in a warm bath and let them dissolve in the water. You may also use the cookies to rub over your skin in the bath.
To scent the cookies, use any essential oil you prefer or that suits the occasion. A simple and always good choice would be pure lavender. In this cookie that I made, I have put together a “love blend” featuring rose, lavender and frankincense.

This will make enough drops for adding to a massage oil and/or a room mist as well.
Method:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Mix salt, baking soda and cornstarch into a bowl and work with fingers to get any lumps out. Add the other ingredients except for the flowers and mix well. If needed, adjust mixture to make the dough workable. If it is too dry, add a little more glycerin and/or oil. If it is too wet, add corn starch and sea salt. The mixture will clump together nicely in your palm when it is the right consistency. When you have the consistency you want, add the flower petals. And blend well.
Take about ¼ of the mixture and make a big ball in your hands. Flatten onto a cutting board and gently roll out until about ¼ inch thick. Push on the edges as they crack. Cut your shapes (I used a heart that measures 2 inches in the widest part) and using a spatula, transfer them onto a lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake 6-7 minutes. DO NOT OVER BAKE! Take them out while they are still light in color – not browned at all.
Transfer the cookies onto a rack to cool completely. You may spray the baked cookies lightly with your essential oil blend to add more scent.
Package and label with directions on how to use and maybe even include the recipe as well.
How to use:
Drop to 2-3 cookies in a warm bath. Let dissolve or rub cookies over skin. Use within 2 weeks and if refrigerated, within 6 weeks.
Enjoy!
